We are losing the ability to express ourselves and communicate effectively. | Passively consuming content conditions us to live on our heels. We lose our environment, the room we are sitting in, the sounds, the smells: all gone. We're spending the free time we are lucky enough to have, looking at other people doing things on a piece of glass. We become passive observers, not required to respond to anything. It’s bleeding into our public life, making us less comfortable and less prepared for face-to-face communication… sapping our ability to develop responses in real time. It's troubling to imagine myself slowly losing the ability to contribute, to be attentive, and present for the people in my life.
Frequent interruptions from our devices keep us from being emotionally available to each other.
